By Car: Take the A7 motorway (direction Ulm-Kempten-Füssen) until the end. From Füssen first follow the road B17 to Schwangau, then the signs to Hohenschwangau. Or take the A7 motorway until the exit Kempten and then the road B12 to Marktoberdorf. Follow the road B16 to Roßhaupten – OAL I to Buching – and then take the road B17 to Schwangau and Hohenschwangau.

Please be aware that the path to the castle starts in the village of Hohenschwangau, and this is your last opportunity to park. For that, there are 4 parking lots in the Hohenschwangau village:

P1 and P4: parking spaces for cars and buses;
P2: parking spaces for cars, mobile homes/campers and motorbikes;
P3: parking spaces for cars and motorbikes.

Please be aware that you still need to walk from the parking lots to the Castle (or take the Shuttle Bus that departs from the P4).

By Train: Take the train to Füssen, then the bus to Neuschwanstein (stop “Hohenschwangau Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau”).

By Foot: It takes about 30-40 minutes to walk from the ticket centre to the castle (around 1.5 km on a steep uphill road).

By Shuttle Bus:
The departure point is from parking P4, and goes via Bleckenaustraße to the Jugend lookout point (Marienbrücke) above the castle. From here, there is a downhill walk of about 500 metres//10-15 min (gradient of 12-19%) to the castle entrance.

No, the Neuschwanstein Castle closes on the 1st of January and 24th, 25th, and 31st of December.

The selected time slot on your ticket is the starting time of the tour. The morning tour starts at 09:10 and the afternoon tour starts at 12:45. Please make sure that you arrive at least 15 min before your tour starts.

In the summer time, you will also be able to visit Marienbrücke, the castle’s famous bridge, for one of the most impressive views of this Romantic German masterpiece. After the tour, you can watch a free ‘multivision show’ about King Ludwig II and the history of the castle, on the 2nd floor.

Only if you buy your Ticket in advance, you will avoid the tedious waiting lines at the ticket center. This is definitely recommended if you want to experience a relaxing day at Schloss Neuschwanstein.

We suggest you visit the Neuschwanstein Castle early in the morning, or later in the evening, so you can have the Castle to yourself as much as possible. Weekdays are usually less crowded than weekends.

The best time of the year to visit is during shoulder season, either May or September, where there is a good balance between manageable crowds and pleasant temperatures.

You can also consider visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in winter when it’s blanketed in snow.

Neuschwanstein Castle has a lift, which makes it possible for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility to access some of the main rooms. But a reservation is mandatory, since the elevator is only available for 1 person in a wheelchair (+ 1 person in company) once every hour. The dimensions of the elevator door is width 0.85 m, depth 1.30 m, so please check if your wheelchair does not exceed the dimensions, before your trip.

Animals are not allowed in the castle.
